Clearly, if you are on this website, then you’re the type of person who spends time thinking about your health. What I want to know . . . is health an everyday or occasional focus for you? As a psychologist, thinking about health, especially mental health and emotional well-being is definitely an everyday focus for me.
In fact, physical and mental health really involve constant choice . . . every single day. While health might not be a topic you think about consciously throughout each day, you do make frequent and quick health choices that impact your well-being over the long-term – and they are amazingly simple choices. Choices that condition you a certain way. Choices that develop into habits. And, habits that further condition you to behave the same way again.
For instance, consider these basics:
- What time did you go to bed last night and how many hours of sleep did you get?
- Did you eat breakfast today? How about lunch? Dinner? (Late night snack?)
- What kind of meal choices (quality and quantity) did you make throughout the day?
- Did you get any exercise?
- Did you enjoy any natural sunlight?
- Did you make any time for creative thought, rest or meditation?
- Did you make any intentional social connections (calling, texting, etc.) with friends?
- What about brushing and flossing your teeth before going to bed?
And this was only one day! Geez, how will you handle tomorrow? Or the day after that?
Maintaining great health is possible if you can be more consciously aware of your simple everyday decisions and how these decisions lead to habits that either support or detract from your well-being. In my blog posts here, I will be talking about an array of topics that discuss how you can develop and maintain a great sense of well-being and create vibrant health.
Vibrant health includes unshakable emotional strength, confidence and self-esteem which you’ll be able to achieve through my Emotional MasteryTM approach. If you’re not familiar with traditional or physical Mastery, it is a system or method for physical conditioning that emphasizes integration of body, mind and spirit. Physical Mastery has a particular focus on building core strength, flexibility, and balance. It’s a physical conditioning approach well-known to dancers, gymnasts and many Hollywood actors.
Emotional MasteryTM makes figurative use of the Mastery concept . . . meaning that Emotional MasteryTM is a system or method for mental and emotional conditioning. Emotional MasteryTM emphasizes the integration of brain, mind, thought, emotion, sensation, memory, behavior, body and spirit with the focus on building core EMOTIONAL strength, mental and emotional flexibility, balance and resilience.
Emotional MasteryTM uses the latest brain research as a foundation, so I’ll also be weaving in neuroscience concepts and knowledge. I’ve found that knowing how your brain works is not only helpful to your pursuit of well-being, it also can be quite relieving to know that things you thought you could just will away . . . you can’t . . . because that’s just not how your brain works.
Health and well-being involve daily choices and daily actions and efforts. So for the rest of today and for tomorrow too, just start by being aware of your choices. What choice will you make that supports your physical health? What choice will you make that supports your mental and emotional well-being?
