In this segment, Carol Daniel, co-host of KMOV-TV’S Great Day Saint Louis, interviews Dr. Joan Rosenberg, co-author with Dr. Erika Holiday of “Mean Girls, Meaner Women.”
Following a series of comments from a number of women about their own encounters with mean girls in school and mean women in the workplace, Dr. Rosenberg explains how mean behavior is often used by women as a coping strategy, and also explains how men and women handle difficult emotions like jealousy and anger very differently. She also explains how the tendency of many women to remember every single detail of an unpleasant situation can lead to problems.
Carol Daniel also asks Dr. Rosenberg how a stronger sense of self-identity and the ability to vent frustrating and difficult emotions can make a huge difference with respect to competitiveness between women. Finally, Dr. Rosenberg offers a number of tips on how women can more effectively deal with mean-spirited behavior by other women.
